A call to reach an agreement within the framework of the debate on the seats reserved for indigenous peoples in the Constitutional Convention, made the government.
This after this morning, in a marathon session, the Mixed Commission that had to resolve the discrepancies between the House and the Senate agreed to approve an opposition proposal of 18 reserved seats (9 of them additional to the 155 originally established) without the support of the ruling party.
In this sense, from Chile Vamos they were against the indication promoted by the opposition, which led the UDI senator, Luz Ebensperger to announce the reservation of constitutionality of the initiative.
“We regret that an agreement has not been reached in the mixed. For that, all sectors have to give in their positions. The parliamentarians of Chile Vamos have made, from the beginning, important efforts in pursuit of consensus ”, indicated the Minister of Social Development, Karla Rubilar.
The Secretary of State also assured that in the Mixed “an indication was voted that does not meet the majority, which requires a high and transversal vote in the room. We are still in time to not make a historical mistake. We cannot leave indigenous peoples out of a process as important as their due representation in the drafting of a new Constitution for Chile ”.
His peer from Segpres, Cristián Monckeberg, added that during the work carried out yesterday and that lasted until this morning, “we are moving forward but we need one more effort.”
“An agreement is still possible, if there is a real desire in the opposition to include indigenous peoples in the Constituent Convention. If it does not happen, there is a looming wound for democracy here and it is necessary that we avoid it with all possible will and means. We are on time ”, he added.
