The Minister of the Interior, Víctor Pérez, affirmed this Monday that the Coordinating Unit for the Reform of Carabineros will be established in mid-October.
It was during the Senate Security commission that the Secretary of State revealed the roadmap that this committee will have, announced by the Executive on August 18.
Thus, Pérez pointed out that the instance will be made up of 10 people: five of them will be “independent” specialists and the remaining places will be filled by representatives of the undersecretaries of the Interior and Crime Prevention, as well as officials of the ministries of Justice, Finance and Women.
Along these lines, he pointed out that the coordinating table must come into operation within a maximum period of 15 days and will have another 60 to “prepare a report on the current framework that governs the operation of the Carabineros, and a proposal for a new regulatory framework.”
The implementation of the reform, once the report is known in which various authorities may participate, will last for a period of 12 months.

The opposition senator, Alejandro Navarro, recalled the importance of advancing in this matter, especially due to the questions that have arisen against the Carabineros, for millionaire fraud and the human rights violations committed during the social outbreak.
“We have a questioned institution, economically, in action and operation,” he said.
