“Starting tomorrow, the data on the number of daily deaths per commune by the Civil registration, that will allow us to continue advancing in transparency and availability of information for all ”, announced the Minister of the General Secretariat of Government, Karla Rubilar, this Thursday night.

The Secretary of State made this announcement on her official Twitter account, in a series of messages she made in response to publications by journalist Alejandra Matus on the social network.

The journalist noted that “according to data provided by the Civil Registry, at a request by Transparency from the lawyer Jorge Álvarez, between March 3 and April 29, 2020, 4,201 people died in Chile from respiratory disease. At that date, Minsal registered 209 deaths from Covid-19 ”.

Facing this, Rubilar explained that “the public body that provides official information on deaths and causes of death is the Department of Statistics and Health Information (DEIS) of the Ministry of Health and not the Civil Registry.”

The government spokeswoman added that the aforementioned department “conducts a rigorous investigation to establish the causes of death of the deceased, in order to provide rigorous and reliable information. According to the same DEIS, in March and April 2019 1,798 people died from respiratory causes.

“In those same months of 2020, during Covid-19, 1,949 people died. This means an increase of 8% ”, closed the minister of the Segegob, before announcing the publication that will be made from this Friday.
