White smoke in the ruling party. After intense negotiations, the government and Chile Vamos reached an agreement for the second withdrawal of 10% of the AFPs and the Executive agreed to exempt income taxes under $ 1.5 million.
The decision came after talks between the ruling party parliamentarians with the Minister of Labor, María José Zaldívar, and her colleagues from the Treasury, Ignacio Briones, and the General Secretariat of the Presidency, Cristián Monckeberg.
“As a government we have agreed to that section and no more, and I want to say that we have an agreement on this matter, an agreement that we have always had in respect of our institutional framework,” said Briones.
Along these lines, the Executive closed the door to include the opposition’s request to exclude from the payment of tax a second tranche of monthly income under $ 2.5 million. “We have an agreement on this matter, that is also what we have discussed with the opposition, we have clearly told them that this is the frame of reference and now it is time to vote,” added Briones.
The decision was reported in an improvised press point in Congress so that the ministers would then assist the Labor Commission of the Chamber of Deputies to enter the indication.
For his part, the Segpres minister, Cristián Monckeberg, highlighted the “team spirit” in the ruling party to come to fruition in this matter that is “for the benefit of the citizens.”
“We have talked with the opposition, we have told them and we have told them what our coalition has told us (…) They are evaluating it. This debate is going to take place in the Commission ”, said the authority after the meeting.
The Secretary of State ruled out that the government had taken the floor from the Minister of Finance, Ignacio Briones, who wanted at all costs to tax the withdrawals of the highest sections.
“No, I believe that we have demonstrated in this already more than two or three weeks, between Budget, retirement and another series of projects in which we have been working in the most coordinated way possible and that the government wants to seek frameworks of understanding. This openness to dialogue speaks very well of who we are in these political functions, “he said.
While on the subject of the form and time in which the payments of the second withdrawal of 10% will be made, the Minister of Labor affirmed that the negotiations with the AFP and actors related to this process are progressing optimally.
However, it lowered the expectations of those who expect their money for the second withdrawal as soon as possible, Zaldiviar warned that despite the white smoke there is still part of the process of the initiation. “To start paying, the law must be approved and published in the Official Gazette. As long as you do not have a law approved, and that it has been fully processed, it is absolutely impossible to start paying.
