The Minister of the Interior, Rodrigo Delgado, met this morning with the mayor of Maipú, Cathy Barriga, after the shooting that occurred yesterday in the square of that commune and that left one person dead and four wounded.

The appointment was looking for smooth things between the Government and Barriga, since the mayor criticized the Executive for not being present in the commune, while the Undersecretary for Crime Prevention, Katherine Martorell, said that she had not received a response from the communal chief when she called her.
After the meeting, where Martorell also participated, the mayor indicated that the appointment is a positive sign since they will begin to work together to improve the security of the commune.
“When a mayor expresses the desperation of his neighbors, because we mayors are the ones who receive fear, anguish and the uncertainty of what security is in a commune. It’s an excellent sign to be able to work together in what is going to be articulated in the streets of our commune ”, he said.
Meanwhile, Minister Delgado pointed out that the Government repudiates and is concerned about what happened yesterday in Maipú, so it will be allocated increased police presence in the commune.
For example, mixed patrols between police and municipal security, which will start from this day. In addition, a new police station will be built during the second half of next year.
In addition, he reiterated the call to approve projects that are processed or that will be sent in Congress to punish different behaviors, such as the launching of fireworks, the intervention of the drug traffickers heritage, improve the law of arms control and better prosecute the illicit association.
“Criminal gangs have evolved and that evolution means that as a State we have to be up to the task ”, he added.
Along with this, he indicated that the security issue is one of the main concerns of the population and not only in the Metropolitan region, for which he called for the approval of structural changes in the prosecution of crimes related to the organized crime.
Health of the injured
The doctor Juan Kehr, director of the Hospital El Carmen, updated the situation of the four wounded by the shooting.
As he pointed out, the two most seriously injured they were operated last night and they are admitted to the ICU in serious condition, to then be reoperated in the next 24 to 48 hours.
Meanwhile, a third will be transferred to another healthcare center and the fourth he was released from the hospital.
Finally, he reported that last night another person shot entered, which would not be related to the shooting. This individual underwent surgery last night and is also in serious condition.
