On Saturday morning the Government delivered a balance of what was the day of the 11 of September, in which demonstrations and disorders were registered in various parts of the country, with a greater scope in the Metropolitan region.
The Minister of the Interior, Victor Perez, reiterated that in the country there is a legitimate right to demonstrate, but regretted that they exist “Violent groups that only want to destroy”.
The authority added that work will be done to detect the latter so that they face the law.
For its part, Carabineros indicated that there were 120 events -between peaceful and violent- on the occasion of the date; and that 5,802 troops were deployed in the national territory.
The national director of Order and Security of the Carabineros, Inspector General Ricardo Yáñez, commented that there was 108 detainees throughout Chile and that 80% of these arrests occurred in the Metropolitan region.
The institution maintained that there were two civilians injured, one minor, plus a young woman who died from a gunshot; and that at least 19 police vehicles and three barracks were attacked, with a balance of 16 police officers affected.
In addition, protesters burned six vehicles that were on public roads, Yáñez said.
Both the Carabineros and the Government noted that they regretted that the commemoration of September 11 culminated in acts of violence; underlining that it is legitimately valid to carry out public acts as long as they are part of the order.
