The fight is still on in the video calling app arena, and while Zoom has announced substantial improvements, several other platforms are innovating to dethrone current download and use leaders.
One of them is Google Meet, which announced this Wednesday, April 22, that it added four functions with which it intends to be at the forefront.
What are the new features added by Meet?
- Tiled layout for larger calls: Expanded tile layout now allows web users to simultaneously view up to 16 participants at a time (previously, tiled layouts only allowed you to see four people at once). More updates will come for bigger meetings, better presentation designs and support on more devices.
- Present higher quality video content with audio – users now have the option to present a Chrome tab (instead of simply presenting their window or full screen). If you need to share high-quality video with audio content in meetings, select this option for the best experience for remote viewers. The feature “present a Chrome tab” is being implemented as of today.
- Low light mode: Meet can now use AI to automatically adjust your video to make it more visible to other participants in suboptimal lighting conditions. This feature is currently being implemented for mobile users and will be available to web users in the future.
- Noise Cancellation – To help limit interruptions in your meeting, Meet can now intelligently filter out background distractions, such as your dog’s barking or keystrokes when taking meeting notes. Noise cancellation will begin rolling out in the coming weeks for G Suite Enterprise and G Suite Enterprise for Education customers, starting with web users and then mobile users.
Regarding security, Meet added that they are taking all the safeguards.

We are constantly looking for ways to improve the security and privacy of all users, such as adding new moderator controls to help educators manage their meetings more effectively and protect their students. ”
