In the company Beiersdorf SA reported this Thursday that its board of directors in Germany made the decision to start the transfer of the production that until now is manufactured in the plant located in Santiago, specifically in the commune of Maipú.
In this way, the production volume at the plant “will gradually decrease until it reaches total closure, which will take place in mid-2021 ″, the company confirmed in a statement.
“The decision has been extremely complex to make and was finalized after analyzing different possibilities to reverse the causes behind this transfer,” added Beiersdorf.
However, it was an “inevitable” path through the competitive disadvantages of the local plant compared to others of the company, located in other countries and related to “The availability of raw materials and the distance from the main markets for marketing the products.”
Beiersdorf is a global skin care company with more than 150 subsidiaries around the world. Among its “star brands” are Nivea and Eucerin.
According to the information on its website, Beiersdorf currently has in Chile about 300 employees.
In this context, the company indicated that during this process, “it will support its collaborators through an exit package that goes beyond our legal obligations and that it is being informed to each worker ”.
Likewise, he commented that he will consider accompanying measures to work on employability and enhance the “possibilities of relocation” of employees.
Beiersdorf, yes, confirmed that will continue to be present in Chile through its commercial team and that all its products will continue to be available in the market.
Finally, in his statement thanked the “commitment and loyalty” of workers and reiterated that the aforementioned decision was very difficult to make, but “necessary to guarantee the company’s competitiveness in the face of new market challenges.”
