Christian Garin (19th) was unable to continue advancing at Roland Garros. The Chilean, who in Paris completed his best participation in a Grand Slam, fell 2-6, 6-3, 4-6 and 2-6 against Karen Khachanov (16th), in the third round of the traditional French championship.

Garin started in the service. In the first set, however, this was not her best virtue. Khachanov broke the opening game, defended in the next and again broke the Chilean’s serve to get 3-0. The first national racket only there made its footing on the Parisian clay, but the Russian had his sleeve aimed. Gago made his first break and left the score at 3-1. Of course, he could not ratify his rise against a powerful rival, who with another break left the set 6-2 in his favor.

The Arican wasted two break points in the first set. That’s why it was important to change completely for the second set. Garin started by winning his serve and broke immediately. He looked more comfortable, hitting the ball with greater confidence, although there was a rival in front of him who took advantage of the power of his shots. The advantage that the Chilean obtained was erased with a break and defense of his service that the Russian did: 2-2 at the time.

As the second round went by, not only did the result equalize, but the duel delivered long points where each tennis player demanded himself to the maximum. The level of the match rose with the rise of the national, who became 3-2 with her serve, broke in the. game next and confirmed to go 5-2. Then, each won with their serve and the set was 6-3 for Gago.

The third quarter started evenly, with solid defenses of their serves and a parity that remained until they went 3-3. However, Garin began to doubt due to his own mistakes and lost effectiveness in his serve. That’s why the Russian went bankrupt in the eighth game to get 5-3, without giving the Chilean the opportunity to score points. And although Gago returned the break in the next, he lost again to zero, which allowed Khachanov to break and close 6-3 the sleeve in his favor.

The Russian grew in confidence and also noticed that Garin was slower. Apparently a discomfort in his hip slowed down the reaction to the Chilean, who no longer ran before the demanding balls that Khachanov threw to the sides. The fourth set was developing with equality until the physicist complicated Gago.

Khachanov broke to go 4-2, already occupying the limitation of his rival in his favor. With his service he defended the break and increased the distance in the set against a Garin who seemed frustrated, seeing how a match that could have had a better outcome was going. Gago made his last serve and left the ball in the net, at which point the Russian closed the match to get into the fourth round of Roland Garros, where he will face Novak Djokovic or Daniel Galán.

Although he was unable to advance further, Garin completed his best Grand Slams appearance, with this third round in the tournament in Paris. He will drop one place in the ATP ranking from the 20th with which he started the tournament.
