Design: Almost like a Galaxy S20

The Samsung Galaxy A51 cell phone has a design very similar to Samsung’s flagship phones, including the Galaxy S20 and the Galaxy S20 Plus, not only because it has a rectangular camera module but also because the screen integrates the front camera through a hole in exactly the same position (centered).

What’s more, the Galaxy A51 was one of the first Samsung cell phones to integrate this kind of design, before the Galaxy S20.

In total, the Galaxy A51 has four rear cameras: a 48-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel wide-angle, a 5-megapixel macro lens and a 5-megapixel lens focused on detecting the depth of objects.

The front of the Galaxy A51 is also very similar to that of the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10 plus. This means that it not only has a centered camera, but also a screen with small bezels.

However, it’s worth making clear that the Galaxy S20 and Note 10 have slightly smaller bezels, but I don’t think it’s such a drastic difference.

The Galaxy A51 also has a curved rear like that of the Galaxy S20, but its curvature is less. This also means that this metal edge of the S20 is thinner than that of the Galaxy A51.

An important difference that the Galaxy A51 has compared to the S20 and Note 10, and that in a way is an advantage, is that it has a traditional headphone jack.

In addition, the back has a triangle pattern with different patterns that give it even more style than traditional S20 colors and reflects a bit of light like the Note 10 in Aura Glow.

In the hand, the Galaxy A51 feels good in the hand and I was even surprised by how similar it looks and feels to the Galaxy S20 Plus. Sure, it’s worth saying that the Galaxy A51 feels like a less dense and slightly cheaper phone.

Performance

The Galaxy A51 has an Exynos 9611 processor (the same as the Galaxy A50s and a small update compared to the Exynos 9610 of the Galaxy S50), 4GB or 6GB of RAM (or 6GB or 8GB in the Galaxy A51 5G), 64GB or 128GB of storage ( 128GB for 5G version) with a microSD card slot and runs Android 10 with One UI 2.0, the interface that first came to the Galaxy S10 with the Android 10 update.

This spec component isn’t the most outstanding on the market and falls short of the processing power that the iPhone SE 2020 offers.

Overall, the Galaxy A51 has offered a very decent experience for this range, but I think the Exynos processor still lags slightly behind the graphics performance of Snapdragon processors in the range.

I say this because sometimes heavy graphics can be seen not as smooth as one would expect – the tests showed just this.

However, in general use the experience is adequate, although I find it unfortunate that it does not distinguish itself in performance and power compared to the Pixel 3A, one of its rivals that is already one year on the market.

Battery life

The Galaxy A51 has the same 4,000mAh battery as its predecessor the Galaxy A50Which is exactly the same as the Galaxy S20 has.

However, if you buy the 5G version you will get a 4,500mAh battery that is the same size as the Galaxy S20 Plus and $ 500 less than the Galaxy S20 Ultra.

At the moment, I’ve been testing it for a couple of days and its battery seems to last a regular day of use, which is good.

In our tests, the Galaxy A51 achieved 16 hours and 30 minutes, which is higher than the 15 hours and 45 minutes that the iPhone SE 2020 achieved, the 16 hours of the Moto G Stylus and the 15 hours with 18 minutes of the iPhone 11.

However, this is also below the 19 hours that the Pixel 3A XL achieved, but it is very similar to the 16 hours and 15 minutes that the Pixel 3A achieved.

Inclusively, in the same test the Galaxy S20 achieved 14 hours in the same test and the Galaxy S20 Plus and Ultra achieved 16 hours in the same test when the screen was set to 120Hz. At 60Hz, the first achieved 19 hours and the other S20s achieved 21 hours.

Initial opinions

Overall, the Galaxy A51 is postulated as an attractive mid-range cell phone that can continue the hot streak that started on Galaxy A50.

I would have liked it to have a little more power, but everything else makes the phone a good contender for this range and it will be interesting to see what Google is up to with the Pixel 4A, although that phone is generally sold in fewer markets.

Compared to the iPhone SE 2020 (which has a starting price of US $ 399 as well), the Galaxy A51 has a more modern design, its storage can be easily extended, it has a traditional headphone port, its screen is more attractive and its cameras are more versatile.

For its part, the iPhone SE 2020 offers more power, can be charged wirelessly, is waterproof with IP68 certification and should receive more software updates.

These are the strongest opponents worldwide in this range and will often be a matter of operating system preference or priority over the advantages mentioned above.

However, other options are not as new cell phones as the OnePlus 7T that has a starting price of US $ 499 whose performance, cameras and even the speed of cell phone charging is superior.

Inclusively, the OnePlus 6T has been sold in recent months for US $ 299 on sale, which makes it an interesting alternative because although it is a little older than the 7T, its performance is also superior to that of the Galaxy A51 and has a more design Elegant.

Another great alternative is the Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro which has had a suggested price of US $ 399 euros, but offers even a better package of features compared to the Galaxy A51.

Likewise, for US $ 399 these are cell phones to consider in this range, but this analysis of the Galaxy A51 has not yet concluded and we will soon have more details of my experience and an official rating.
