Fraud in the Army: Rutherford prosecutes Fuente-Alba for using institutional aircraft for personal travel

A new prosecution fell this morning against the former Commander-in-Chief of the Army, General (R) Juan Miguel Fuente-Alba (2010-2014). The Visiting Minister Romy Rutherford, indicted the exalted officer for the crime of embezzlement of public funds, for the alleged misuse of the institutional aircraft during his tenure.

As established in the prosecution, Fuente-Alba would have traveled 38 times to Puerto Velero, a resort located in the Fourth Region, using the Army plane, and charged to fiscal resources.

In that sense, Rutherford’s investigation found that General (R) was traveling with his family, friends, and on some occasions with his son -and his girlfriend-, to La Serena, and then they would travel by car to Puerto Velero.

The amount involved in the use of the institutional aircraft, according to the indictment, is almost $ 19 million for repeated crimes of embezzlement of public funds. The minister’s inquiries mainly addressed the review of documents related to the flight hours of the pilots who transferred him, the registration of the departures of the air vehicle and the taking of statements to witnesses and companions of Fuente-Alba.

This is the general (R) ‘s third indictment in the Army fraud investigation. Earlier, the minister indicted him for embezzling reserved expenses of $ 3,500 million and for alleged false reports to the Comptroller’s Office on the use of Security and Intelligence money.

The exalted officer was also formalized by the North Central Prosecutor’s Office for the crime of money laundering, for an amount greater than $ 650 million.
