Four RED buses were burned in the Alameda after demonstrations and riots

At least four public transport buses were totally burned tonight in Central Station, amid protests and riots in the Alameda.

The incident occurred in the intersection of Avenida Libertador Bernardo O’Higgins with Las Rejas, in the Central Station sector.

Carabineros has so far not reported injuries among the occupants of the buses nor on the arrest of people as a result of the fact.

The flames forced rapid action by fire companies to try to prevent the fire from completely destroying the structure of the buses.

In advance of the burning of the buses, the police had indicated the apprehension of a dozen people for various incidents on the capital’s artery.

The events took place in the middle of the barricades erected in that sector of the capitall, which forced the intervention of the Carabineros.

Commander César Tapia, subprefect of the Santiago Centro Prefectural Services confirmed the facts by stating that “in the context of the serious disorders caused by violent individuals today (Thursday), both in the Santiago commune and in the commune of Central Station, a group of criminals burned four buses of the public transport system ”.

The officer added that “it is a damage that has a significant impact on the community, since thousands of people use this means of transport daily, for which Carabineros deploys its resources to find its authors ”.
