Four communes in the Metropolitan Region passed the thousand coronavirus infections.

This was revealed in the last Epidemiological Report of the Ministry of Health, which details that the new districts of the capital in passing this figure are Recoleta (1028) and Florida (1771) that are added to Santiago (1873) and Puente Alto (1658).

According to the document -which counts the cases until Sunday, May 10-, of the 20 communes with the highest number of infected, 17 are from the RM: Santiago (1873), Puente Alto (1658), La Florida (1071) Recoleta (1028), Independencia (992), Punta Arenas (858), Maipú (844), Quilicura (826), Peñalolén (779), San Bernado ( 773), Las Condes (738), Temuco (734), Central Station (679), Antofagasta (658), La Pintana (561), Pudahuel (491), Ñuñoa (480), San Joaquín (475), Conchalí (470 ) and Quinta Normal (459).

Thus, of the communes with the largest number of inhabitants in the RM, the greatest increases in percentage terms are: Peñalolén (36.7%), Cerro Navia (36.3%), La Florida (30%), Lo Prado (27 , 5%) and La Granja (26.1%).

Santiago, like the previous report, leads in active cases with 809. They are followed by Puente Alto (647), La Florida (554), Recoleta (514), Independencia (440), Peñalolén (436).

As for active cases, in the RM, the municipalities that lead the list of increases compared to the last report are Peñalolén (goes from 284 to 436, that is, 152 more), Florida (from 427 to 554, 127 more), High Bridge (from 533 to 647, an increase of 114 cases), Maipú (from 260 to 323, 63 more) and Las Condes (from 225 to 287, 62 more). In Vitacura, it went from 11 active cases to 99. In Providencia, from 29 to 138. Two communes that have been quarantined in the past.

Of the 15 communes with the most accumulated cases, Maipú (it went from 718 to 844) it is the only one that has never been quarantined.

Another of the data that the document shows is that Ancud doubled the cases since the last report, issued on Friday, May 8: it went from 23 to 48 infected people. The number is striking, given that Chiloé has a sanitary cord implemented by the Minsal since March 25.

Alhué continues without registered cases, being the only commune of the MRI without infection. In this line, 167 communes are without a new case between the previous epidemiological report and this one. Combarbalá (2), Lebu (2), Nogales (1) and Pichilemu (1) are communes that had no cases until now, losing their status of “undefeated”.

Meanwhile, for the first time a commune exceeds a thousand total cases for every 100,000 inhabitants, the so-called Incidence Rate. It is Mejillones, with 14,776 inhabitants and 150 infected, where its incidence rate is 1,015.2.
