In a new step in the modernization process of the San Carlos Apoquindo Stadium, Cruzados presented this afternoon the architectural design for the transformation of the site, with a view to making it the most modern and sustainable in the country.

The Spanish architecture office IDOM, selected by Cruzados after a contest in which local and international firms participated, after collecting a series of ideas and recommendations raised during the voluntary socialization process (or “Open Houses”) – several of them suggested by the club’s own neighbors and fans – and reflecting his extensive experience in the development of this type of venues globally, he delivered the first images of what would be the modernized venue that, in an event broadcast live on social media of the club, generated excitement to fans and supporters.

Among the main features, the cover on the four stands stands out, which will also see their capacity expanded with a second tray. It will also include modern boxes located in the Livingstone and Fouillioux Grandstands, similar to those in European stadiums, VIP areas and commercial and service areas. It also highlights a large work area for the press, in addition to the fact that fans will be able to enjoy a special sector where they can appreciate the history of the club.

In addition, with the new design, the four lighting towers disappear, since the latest technology LED luminaires that will be used in the project will be installed on the roof, in the style of the most modern stadiums in the world, considerably reducing light pollution towards the neighborhood. The new roof will also create a new atmosphere inside the enclosure by amplifying its acoustics and at the same time reducing noise to the outside, an issue raised by residents in the process of socializing the project.

During the event Juan Tagle, president of Cruzados, pointed out what this important step means for the club, “this is a day of strong emotions for the crusaders and crusaders. For the first time we show images of what we dream will be our new home. For those of us who carry and feel this club deeply, today is a very special day. A historic day, one of those that are written down in everyone’s memory ”.

The design presentation considered the grandstands and the interior structure of the stadium modernization project, because several proposals and ideas that arose in the Open House process are still being evaluated with respect to the surroundings of the venue and its accesses, for the benefit of the community.

Subject to meeting the deadlines related to obtaining the necessary permits, obtaining the financing required for the construction of the project and agreeing to the sale of the Naming Rights of the site to a sponsor, Cruzados expects the works to be completed during the second half of the year. 2023, allowing the new venue to host some sports disciplines of the Pan American Games to be held in Santiago in October of that year. To achieve the above, construction works are expected to begin during the first half of 2022.

Finally, it should be noted that the project has its Impact Study on Urban Transport (EISTU) in process before the Regional Ministerial Secretary of Transport and Telecommunications, that the Environmental Impact Declaration of the same was entered today December 17 to the Evaluation Service Environmental and that the architectural preliminary project will soon be submitted to the Municipal Works Directorate of the Municipality of Las Condes.
