The president of the United States, Donald Trump, described as “Stupid” to Latinos and African Americans, among other racist commentsaccording to the memoir of Michael Cohen, his former personal attorney.
In the book “Disloyal: A Memoir” (Unfair: some memories), which was obtained by The Washington Post newspaper before the publication date, scheduled for next Tuesday, Trump adds new attacks on the Latino community.
Cohen, convicted of fraud, among other crimes, says that Trump’s three oldest children went to his office after the businessman announced his intention to run for the Republican nomination in the summer of 2015.
On that occasion, Trump said that Mexico sent drug traffickers, criminals and rapists to the United States and that is why he wanted to build a wall on the border with the southern country.
Trump’s sons wanted their father to withdraw from the campaign because they were concerned that this rhetoric was “killing the company.”. However, the tycoon’s personal lawyer assured that Trump was not worried about that because his businesses would not be affected, nor would his campaign.
Trump: “They are not my people”
“Also, I will never get the Hispanic vote,” said the Republican, according to Cohen’s book. “Like African Americans, they are too stupid to vote for Trump. They are not my people ”.
Cohen was sentenced to three years for violating Trump’s campaign finance laws by paying money to women who claimed to have had relationships with the president to buy his silence, as well as tax evasion and false statements to a bank.
Before entering prison, the lawyer testified before Congress, a hearing in which he related numerous lies and crimes that he allegedly committed to protect Trump, who he said was “a racist, a con artist, a fraud.”
Racist attacks
The book also reflects several attacks by Trump on African Americans and his predecessor, Barack Obama (2009-2017). “Tell me a country run by an African-American person who is not an idiot”, the president then said, according to Cohen.
The lawyer also explains in the book that Trump admires the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, for his ability to “take over an entire nation and run it as if it were his personal company, like the Trump Organization, in fact.”
In Cohen’s view, Putin and Trump had in common the desire to “harm (former Secretary of State and then Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton) in any way possible” and that there was no collusion with the Russian government for him to win the elections but a “confluence of shared interests.”
