The Ibero-American grouping of progressive leaders Puebla Group issued a statement to send its support to Marco Enriquez-Ominami, who will see his right to vote suspended in the next elections.

“Civil and political rights, due process of law and the presumption of innocence they are guaranteed by the American Convention on Human Rights and by the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, both commitments ratified by the Chilean State in its internal legislation, ”explained the group of which Enríquez-Ominami is the promoter.
The statement was signed, according to a statement sent by the Progressive Party, by the former presidents of Brazil, Luiz Inácio “Lula” da Silva and Dilma Rousseff; the former president of Colombia, Ernesto Samper; and the former leaders of Ecuador, Spain and Paraguay, Rafael Correa, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and Fernando Lugo, respectively.
The declaration, also signed by Baltasar Garzón, also calls for “ending this unprecedented and aggressive way of replacing military weapons with the manipulation of legal resources to stop any progressive political claim and proposal to rebuild hope, restore dignity, true sovereignty and justice for our peoples ”.
