The retired astronaut Mark Kelly managed to beat the republican Martha McSally, taking away his seat in the United States Senate.

“I am confident in the fact that when the votes are counted, we will achieve our mission,” said Mark Kelly before the media announced his victory. That 56-year-old retired military man was in the Navy and NASA, for which he traveled to the International Space Station (ISS).

According to the New York Times, McSally took office after the death of Senator John McCain, a Republican harshly critical of President Donald Trump.

Unlike his predecessor, McSally became an ally of the president, who on multiple occasions made fun of McCain.

Finally, Kelly managed to prevail with 53.4% of the votes, against 46.6% for McSally. Along with the apparent victory of the Democratic candidate for the White House, Joe Biden, in this same state, Arizona seems to be “painted blue”, contrary to its Republican tradition.
