The Minister of Health Jaime Mañalich, the Chancellor Teodoro Ribera and the undersecretary of International Economic Relations (Subrei), Rodrigo Yáñez, arrived, during this day, at the Arturo Merino Benítez airport to receive a plane that was coming from Beijing, China, a ship that It brought 60 non-invasive mechanical ventilators, 1,664,900 masks and other protection elements, donated in China by people and companies from that country, to face the health emergency caused by the Covid-19.
The 21-ton shipment of medical supplies is valued at $ 2.5 million. This is the first of three loads of donations to be received. Along with the fans, the total figure is between 6 and 8 million dollars.
Among the supplies it contains, are 215 thousand gloves, 19,960 digital thermometers, 2,500 Covid-19 sampling kits, 15,180 isolation suits, 1,800 protective glasses, three disinfection cabins, two temperature chambers, two infrared thermographic cameras and an epidemic quarantine unit.
“Since the beginning of this pandemic, the Foreign Ministry has worked very hard and has put all its efforts into helping return the Chileans who have been stranded in different countries, as well as getting where necessary medical supplies to help us overcome the emergency. Today we are putting this generous donation in the hands of the Ministry of Health so that it can go in direct aid to our compatriots, ”said Foreign Minister Ribera upon arrival of the plane.
Meanwhile, the Undersecretary for International Economic Relations, Rodrigo Yáñez, added that “our management has been focused on ensuring the flow of trade with an emphasis on critical medical supplies to face this pandemic. Through an articulated work, we have been able to establish an airlift of humanitarian aid given the good relations that Chile has with our commercial partners in Oceania and the Asia Pacific. ”
