The Foreign Minister of our country, Andrés Allamand, referred to the legislative elections that are being held this Sunday in Venezuela and assured that “they lack any legitimacy.”
After that, the Chancellor elaborated on this situation in particular, assuring that “there is no independent electoral authority, political parties cannot function freely, there is no minimum equal access to the media, no foreign electoral observation has been admitted” .
In addition, the Foreign Minister affirmed that today’s process is “an exercise to affirm the dictatorship” and that “in no case is it to allow democratic progress.”
Finally, Foreign Minister Allamand explained Chile’s position towards the future regarding the Venezuelan situation, stating that “it will continue to promote the convergence of the different platforms -Lima Group, Contact Group, Stockholm Group- so that the international community supports in set an effective transition in Venezuela and urging that the opposition also increase its cohesion and unity.
