Food “Spawn” Expert Alert: A 2,300-Calorie Treat You Bunch | Health & Wellness

“I just ran into this monster in a supermarket. With a simple rule of three we will see that it contributes no less than 2,300 kilocalories. It’s not that it’s a lot, it’s that it’s EVERYTHING ”.

With these words, the Spanish dietitian and nutritionist Julio Basulto warned on his Twitter account about a hypercaloric food whose consumption implies ingesting all the calories you need in a day (and even a little more) at once.

For the specialist, who is also a teacher at the Central University of Catalonia, it is a “monstrosity” because its components – a mixture of fat, sugar, chocolate, salt – make it a caloric bomb with very little nutritional value.

As he explained, this product provides 541 kilocalories for every 100 grams consumed and in total this palm tree dipped in chocolate weighs 425 grams. Therefore, it involves eating 2,300 calories at one time.

“It is estimated that, approximately, a typical woman needs, on average, between 1800 and 2200 kilocalories per day and a man between 2200 and 2700 kilocalories per day (children less, of course, and if they do a lot of physical exercise, more, of course ) ”, Said Basulto.

“So if you put this thing between your chest and back, you have covered all the calories your body needs all day in one sitting. However, you will not have nearly covered your needs for the many nutrients your body needs to function well, “he added.

The professional emphasized why foods of this type are called “garbage”. “Do you understand now why we speak of ‘junk food’? And do you also understand, in all its breadth, the expression ‘cheap is expensive’? (cheap for your pocket -1.6 paltry euros-, expensive for health) “, he said. In Chilean pesos it is equivalent to about $ 1,400.

Later, Basulto published a column about it on his personal website where he said that this chocolate palm tree is a “pastry with puff pastry with a peculiar heart shape. But even if it is heart-shaped, it is better not to take the palm tree. Especially if you are concerned about your cardiovascular health (and it should: according to the latest report from the European Heart Network, the leading cause of death in Europe is cardiovascular disease and the main cause of such diseases are modifiable dietary factors ”.

“There were hundreds of comments on my social networks when I shared this photo yesterday. Several people accused me of having made the calculations wrong, because they read that the product has 2700 kilojoules. No, I didn’t do the math wrong. As I have indicated on Twitter, ‘The many people who have been confused by this is the irrefutable proof that the labels seem designed so that a minimum part of the population understands them, “” he said.
