TO fire was registered this Sunday afternoon in a factory with “hazardous materials” in ColinaTherefore, firefighters from that and other communes support the combat of the emergency.
As initially reported by the Santiago Fire Department, it was a chemical factory in the Los Libertadores Industrial Park.
Specifically, the fire completely consumed dependencies of Nutrapharm, which produces food supplements, “nutraceuticals” and functional foods.
In the emergency, which began around 4:00 p.m., about 155 people worked, who managed to control the fire and avoid affecting other industries or neighboring homes in the sector.
“It was not registered no fire reaction due to the existence of substances that could generate an abnormal or chemical reaction (…) It was not even necessary to carry out work with other extinguishing elements more than with water“said Commander Sebastián Benítez, of the Colina-Lampa Fire Department.
“I know discards of more dangerous substances that could have generated some reaction and contamination in the environment, “he emphasized.
Volunteers from Firefighters from 35 companies from the Corps of Colina-Lampa, Santiago, La Granja-La Pintana, Quinta Normal, Conchalí-Huechuraba, Metropolitano Sur, Tiltil, Maipú-Cerrillos, Quilicura and Ñuñoa worked in the combat; in addition to municipal emergency personnel and cistern trucks.
The incident led to the declaration of a sixth alarm.
Already during the late night, firefighters were carrying out debris clearance work.
Neighbors of the sector accused lack of taps and they placed responsibility of the municipality.
