Fire in Cerro Navia camp destroys some 60 homes: a firefighter was stabbed | National

A fire broke out at noon this Sunday in the Violeta Parra camp in the Cerro Navia commune, which consumed more than 60 homes, leaving hundreds of people affected by the flames that destroyed the houses of light material.

Due to the large number of houses affected, Onemi reported that the Republic of Italy School in the Cerro Navia commune, as a shelter for the affected people.

Firefighters worked for more than three in the place, where incidents were registered between volunteers, neighbors of the sector and a person from the municipality who came to provide help in the face of the emergency.

For these facts, a Quinta Normal Firefighter volunteer was stabbed, although with minor injuries, since the suit stopped part of the knife with which he was attacked, while two people were injured as a result of the fire.

José Marín, commander of the Quinta Normal Fire Department, explained that despite the lack of taps in the Violeta Parra camp, they had prepared for an emergency in that sector, so there was no lack of water.

“The biggest problem we had was people, people who react out of desperation in different ways: A car of the Fifth Company lowered all the material to us, they beat the personnel with blades, they cracked the hoses, we have all the material of a destroyed car bomb ”, Marin indicated.

Although the fire was under control, Firefighter was still in place due to the possibility of a regrowth, considering the lightweight material from which the houses were built.
