Federico Valdés: I don’t understand how Dudamel can complain and continue training

Federico Valdes, former president of Azul Azul, spoke with Outdoors at Cooperativa on the present of Universidad de Chile after the complex 2020 season and on the planning for the 2021 Championship, and expressed his surprise at the claim of the Venezuelan coach Rafael Dudamel, who accused that it was not taken into account in the formation of the establishment.

“It surprises me, I do not understand how you can complain that they ignore you and you do not have the team you requested and continue training. That has more edges than seen from the outside, they are not known, but I never had to see such a thing at the beginning of the championship. Sometimes some say ‘he is not the player I wanted’ when the dates advance, but the championship has not started yet, “he explained.

Valdés, currently rector of the Universidad del Desarrollo (UDD), recalled that in his time at the command of the U he never saw a similar situation, because they did not impose players on the coaches.

“The final decision was of the boardThey represent the shareholders and the technicians are short-lived, a bad campaign makes them short-lived, or a good one, as happens with UC. But you can’t impose players on a coach. There must be a degree of agreement and consensus. The technician is the one who makes the decision. We never got into the team that the technician puts together. The one who puts the names is the technician. At most we could evaluate and change the coach, “he said.

Furthermore, he also pointed to Blue Blue’s situation with two sports managers, Rodrigo Goldberg and Sergio Vargas.

“It is not the way we organize ourselves, there are differences. It has to be a sports manager, there can be two people, but one has to be the boss of the other. And he was also an employee of the club, he was not just another member of the board, “he explained.

Finally, Valdés affirmed that he does not plan to have a managerial role in the U in the future: “I am the rector at a university that takes 60 hours a week. I’d rather be a fan, it’s much more entertaining “.
