At the age of 65, the American musician and founder of the Van Halen group passed away, Eddie van halen, after a long battle with throat cancer.
As confirmed TMZ, the death of the artist occurred this Tuesday in a hospital in Santa Monica, California, where he was accompanied by his wife.
According to Van Halen’s medical team, the throat cancer that was diagnosed almost a decade ago had spread to his brain in recent days, causing his health to deteriorate.
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Eddie Van Halen rose to world fame alongside the band. In addition to hits like “Jump”, “Panama” and “Eruption”, the musician stood out for his virtuosity and istrionism when it came to playing the guitar. In fact, the magazine Rolling Stone considered it as one of the best 10 guitarists in history.
In recent years Eddie Van Halen was the main driver of his band’s career alongside his brother Alex and his son Wolfgang, holding various meetings with Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth, the two most distinguished voices of the group. Van Halen’s latest album, entitled “A Different Kind of Truth,” was released in 2013.
“I can’t believe I have to write this,” his son Wolfgang Van Halen said on social media reporting his father’s death. “He was the best father I could have had, all the moments that I shared with him on stage and outside of him were a gift,” he added.
“I’m heartbroken. Eddie was not only a guitar god, he was also a beautiful soul,” he wrote. Gene Simmons, the leader of Kiss, on his Twitter account.
