Warning signs in the Araucania region, after an acceleration of coronavirus infections, the report warns Icovid, carried out by experts from Catholic, Chilean and Concepción universities.

The analysis details that, at the national level, in the last week the average number of new cases increased from 8.23 to 9.96 per 100,000 inhabitants. And the biggest rise was detected in La Araucanía “where new cases grew from 16.2 to 25.5 per 100,000 inhabitants. In other words, more than 50% ”.

But it is not the only area. It was also found that “Arica and Parinacota, O’Higgins, Maule, Biobío and Los Lagos also show significant (and statistically significant) growth in the number of cases.”

In the regions Antofagasta and Metropolitana, experts affirm that the increase in infections is not statistically significant “only for a little”, so “they also deserve attention and monitoring.” And, on the other hand, although the decrease in cases in Magallanes is noted, they conclude that “it is not significant either, however, it is promising.”

Araucanía is also concerned about its low reach in terms of traceability, that is, to locate the infected in a timely manner and to isolate all their close contacts. According to the latest report from the Ministry of Health, only 43% of the new cases detected come from an active search, while the positivity of the test reaches 10%, being the second highest in the country, after Magallanes. Further, For each positive case, only 1.9 people are contacted, while in other areas this indicator reaches five.

In this context, this Thursday the government announced that in that region the communes of Perquenco, Freire, and Vilcún, while they will return to quarantine Galvarino and Renaico.

After an improvement in infections, in the Metropolitan Region, for the first time, a group of six communes –Tiltil, María Pinto, San Pedro, Curacaví, Pirque and Colina– they will go from the Preparation stage to Phase 4, Initial Opening. Another eight, meanwhile, will advance from Transition to Readiness: Renca, Paine, Melipilla, Maipú, San Joaquín, Lo Espejo, El Monte, San Bernardo.

Minister Enrique Paris highlighted that in the last seven days cases have fallen by 7% at the national level and by 8% in the last two weeks.

Meanwhile, the Undersecretary of Public Health, Paula Daza, called for people to consult promptly, to speed up traceability. “35% of people consult within 24 hours and 50% within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms. We want everyone to just start with a cough, lack of smell and / or taste, isolate themselves and consult ”.
