In the framework of the launch of the book “The People in Motion, from Discomfort to Outbreak”, the Mayor of Providencia, Evelyn Matthei insisted on her position to de-dramatize the plebiscite of October 25 and emphasize the process of drawing up the new Constitution .
During his speeches, the mayor of Providencia, who has expressed his willingness to compete again to reach La Moneda, said that “it makes no sense to put the October 25 event at the center of attention. What matters to me is how we are going to talk later and how we are going to listen first, to all the people who have something to say and how we are going to be able to amalgamate all these different dimensions of the problem as well ”.
In that sense, he warned that we must be careful where to put the emphasis “on a Constitution that goes to the detail of the things we want to fix, but that is not something that stops being a Constitution, that is, that goes so much to every detail and that it is finally absurd ”.
At the same time, he reiterated his position expressed these days: “I think that what happened on October 25 should be de-dramatized, I think that the worst that could happen to us as a country is to once again become the YES and the NO, enemies. We continue in this logic of enemies instead of trying to build a country in which everyone fits ”.
Evelyn Matthei appreciated the contribution to reflection on the country that we want to build that arises from the book by political scientists Danae Mlynarz and Gloria de la Fuente and which had among its commentators the journalist Patricio Fernández and the sociologist Alberto Mayol, who spoke about the social and political processes that have taken place since October 18 and how to face the constituent process, from all its areas.
The issues of citizen participation, security, feminism, and others are addressed in the book in which you can find texts by Manuel Antonio Garretón, Emmanuelle Barozet, Eduardo Vergara, Axel Callís, Rodrigo Márquez and Francisco Soto, among others.
The author Danae Mlynarz highlighted that “this was a collaborative experience that seeks to establish different views from a multidimensional perspective of the problems at a time that should be foundational for the Chile of the future.” While Gloria De la Fuente pointed out that “there is a relevant reflection on the erosion of the political system and inequality from different perspectives that serves for the current and future discussion.” Both agree on the need for what is addressed in the text to transcend in all spaces of debate to “avoid the risk of remaining as is and continue deepening inequalities.”
“The People in Movement, from Discomfort to Outbreak”, -by Editorial Catalonia that will be available in print and digital versions- has the participation of the National Prize for Humanities, Manuel Antonio Garretón, who during the launch highlighted the foundational aspect of what has been lived from October 18. “This, which had a component against politics, finally the way out and the opportunity to transform into a movement was given by traditional politics, creating an agreement of those who were all censored, but it is an agreement of politics to give back to society. transformed into an actor who defines himself and his future. This has not occurred in any other outbreak in the world: the opportunity to transform itself into a founding movement ”.
