For more than an hour, traffic in both directions was cut off on Route 5 South at the height of the Ercilla commune – La Araucanía region -, after a group of around 10 unknown persons set up barricades and used firearms against a Carabineros armored vehicle.
The incident occurred at the Collico crossing in Ercilla, at kilometer 587, where the sound of an explosion was also reported, a preliminary matter that would be a truck that burned in the sector.
The foregoing forced a deployment of Carabineros with the support of Army personnel, forcing traffic to be cut from north to south in the Brigada Forestal sector, and from south to north at the height of Pailahueque, on Route 5 South.
After the events, traffic was restored in both directions, but the police presence in the area was maintained.
