Punta Arenas continues to lead in active cases of Covid-19 at the national level, with 1,308 positives. As revealed by the latest epidemiological report from the Ministry of Health -published this Saturday-, the capital of the Magallanes Region registered a slight drop in this indicator compared to the previous report.

However, despite this decrease, Punta Arenas more than double the second commune with the most active infections in the country: Arica (432).

They both follow High Bridge (407); Colonel (391); Puerto Montt (385); Talca (350); Maipú (335) and Antofagasta (332).

Regarding the municipalities with the highest asset incidence rate -that is, the indicator that compares the number of active cases per 100,000 inhabitants-, the first three places belong to Magallanes: Laguna Blanca (1,893.9); Natales (988.1) and Punta Arenas (921.2). Followed by San Juan de la Cosa -Los Lagos Region-, with a rate of 916.4 and Porvenir (901.3).

In the Metropolitan Region, meanwhile, only three communes register an incidence rate greater than one hundred: Alhué (175.6); El Monte (100.0) and Renca (126.2).

It should be remembered that, last Thursday, the Ministry of Health announced that the last two municipalities of the RM in quarantine – Paine and Renca – would lift the restriction and advance to Transition. In this way, as of this Monday, the region will not have communes in confinement.

Along with the 56th epidemiological report, the Ministry of Health published a new weekly report of deaths in the framework of the pandemic. In the document -which consists of 20 pages- it was reported that suspected and confirmed deaths from the virus reached 17,480.

Thus, as detailed in the document, As of October 1, 12,919 deaths due to Covid-19 were confirmed in the country.

On the other hand, Suspected deaths from the virus – which have not yet been ratified – reached 4,561.
