This Saturday, the Ministry of Health unveiled a new epidemiological report, in which the deaths related to the coronavirus pandemic in our country are detailed. That is, the sum between the deaths with a confirmed diagnosis by Covid-19 and the suspects.
In this sense, the total number of people who have lost their lives in Chile due to causes related to the coronavirus is 16,688. Of these, 12,254 were diagnosed, while the remaining 4,434 correspond to suspected cases.
Most of the deaths associated with Covid-19 are in the Metropolitan region, reaching a figure of 11,711 deaths: 8,998 confirmed and 2,713 suspected.
On the other hand, the report detailed that “when making a comparison of the deaths registered and reported in the last 5 years in Chile (2016-2020), it is observed that, As of May 2020 there is an increase above the average mortality of the previous 4 years “.
Specifically, “the accumulated deaths in the year 2020 between the months of January to August are equivalent to 20% more deaths in relation to the average accumulated deaths in the same period in the years 2016 to 2019”.
