The Ministry of Health published the 108th epidemiological report, showing that the assets of Covid-19 in Chile are close to 60 thousand and already exceed – by far – the peak of the first wave of the pandemic.
According to the report prepared by the Department of Health Statistics and Information (DEIS), as of April 1 there were 57,768 active cases of coronavirus nationwide.
Exactly two weeks ago – in the 104th epidemiological report – the highest number of active cases so far in the pandemic was registered: 47,923, exceeding by more than a thousand the previous peak, registered during the first wave (46,028, on 19 June). The indicator continued to increase in successive reports, published on March 24, 28 and 31, in addition to today’s.
The document also points out that 1,185,269 Covid-19 infections have accumulated up to the same date, between confirmed (1,011,485) and probable (173,784). And that the highest cumulative incidence rates per 100,000 inhabitants, according to laboratory-confirmed cases, are found in the Magallanes Region (14,271.5), Tarapacá Region (9,227.4) and Los Lagos Region (8,003.2) .
According to the 42nd Weekly Report of Deaths from Covid-19, so far there have been 31,303 total deaths since the start of the pandemic, between confirmed cases (23,524) and suspected cases (7,779).
The Metropolitan Region has the highest number of active cases, with 21,389 infections; it is followed by the Biobío Region, with 6,722 infections; and then the Valparaíso Region, with 6,474 infections.
In detail, in the Metropolitan Region, the Puente Alto district leads the active cases, with 1,801 infections; followed by Maipú, with 1,299 infections; Florida, with 1,129 infections; and the commune of Santiago, with 1,100 cases.
The Communes of Pudahuel and San Bernardo, meanwhile, approach 1,000 active infections, with 875 and 977 cases respectively.
