Eleven Republican senators announced this Saturday that they intend to formally reject the official result of the presidential elections on November 3, in which the Democrat Joe Biden prevailed over the current president, Donald Trump.
The next Congress meets to formalize the count of the Electoral College that has come out of the elections, but these ten senators will express their rejection and will request a ten-day audit of the results.
Among them are Ted Cruz (Texas), Ron Johnson (Wisconsin), James Lankford (Oklahoma), Steve Daines (Montana), John Kennedy (Louisiana), Marsha Blackburn (Tennessee) and Mike Braun (Indiana), in addition to the elected senators. Cynthia Lummis (Wyoming), Roger Marshall (Kansas), Bill Hagerty (Tennessee) and Tommy Tuberville (Alabama).
“Congress should immediately appoint an Electoral Commission with few powers to investigate and carry out an emergency audit of ten days of the electoral results in the disputed states,” the senators have indicated, according to the newspaper ‘The Hill’.
“Once completed, each of the states will evaluate the results of the commission’s investigation and a special legislative session will be convened to certify the change in vote, if necessary,” they added.
Therefore, they announce their negative vote for the January 6 session that ratifies the voters because they have not been appointed in a “regular, legal and certified” manner.
An eventual objection from Congress on January 6 does not change Biden’s victory, but it does serve to position possible candidates for the 2022 midterm elections and even for the 2024 presidential elections.
Cruz and Hawley are on the list of possible presidential candidates for 2024 and have supported Trump in his allegations of vote-by-mail fraud in recent elections. The complaints and appeals presented so far in court have all been dismissed.
