Disorders and barricades in Alameda and surrounding streets in a new day of demonstrations in the vicinity of La Moneda

A series of disorders were registered this Friday afternoon in the center of Santiago after a Call on social networks to carry out a march to the Palacio de La Moneda to protest against the government.

There were barricades in the streets surrounding Alameda and individuals who confronted police officers with stones and firebombs. According to a preliminary police report, as of 8:00 p.m. there were already 21 people arrested for the incidents in the area.

Personnel from the Carabineros Public Order Control Prefecture proceeded to disperse the protesters with water and gas cars.

Metro de Santiago, meanwhile, reported the closure of access to the Universidad de Chile and Santa Lucía stations, on Line 1, due to the incidents. The combination at Universidad de Chile with Line 3 also had to be suspended after 7:00 p.m.

The Ministry of Transport, for its part, reported several traffic detours on the Alameda-Providencia axis, as a result of this situation.

The demonstrations were concentrated in the vicinity of the civic neighborhood of Santiago, in what has been the trend of the protests that have been taking place daily for more than a week.

Plaza Baquedano, the so-called Ground Zero of the social outbreak of October 18, 2019, gathered some people, but police personnel were stationed at the place with water launchers, guarding the monument to General Manuel Baquedano and preventing civilians from approaching the roundabout .
