Deputy Jorge Durán (RN) did not rule out presenting a draft resolution to postpone the constituent elections, which will be held in April 2021.
A measure that according to the parliamentarian of Chile Vamos, is part of a possible second wave of infections by coronavirus in March 2021, and that would seek to avoid the abstention of older adults in the elections.
In that sense, Deputy Durán He affirmed that together with a group of parliamentarians they are considering the possibility of presenting a draft resolution to ask President Sebastián Piñera and the pertinent authorities to postpone the April elections.
Also, the parliamentarian said that it would be a terrible measure to call to vote for something as important as a new Constitution with a large number of abstention by older adults.
For the above, Durán said that if the new fundamental charter is to represent the entire population, all the necessary safeguards must be delivered so that all actors, both young and old, can go to exercise their right to vote.
