The deputy of National Renovation, Miguel Mellado, reacted harshly to the transfer of machi Celestino Córdova to the Center for Education and Work (CET) in Vilcún.
This transfer corresponds to one of the agreements he reached with the Government, which will allow him to serve the rest of his sentence in that place.
The parliamentarian regretted the negotiation between the Executive and the machi, stating that his referral to the CET is not a new thing, since “that is what the government negotiated on its knees with this murderer, who he is going to serve his sentence in a 5 star hotel that it does not have guard booths, that it does not have any protection ”.
In turn, the RN deputy assured that the center has poor security measures and that, therefore, there is a risk of escape.
“This is a bad precedent and if Palma Salamanca was ripped from jail by helicopter, Celestino Córdova is going to walk out of the Vilcún CET, because this center does not have any drastic security measures for assassins such as the Luchsinger Mackay murderer to go there ”, he asserted.
On the contrary, Senator Juan Ignacio Latorre (Democratic Revolution), valued this transfer and pointed out that “There is a lot of distrust in the Mapuche world with the Chilean State, with the governments of the day due to a history of betrayals, disagreements, historical debt, non-compliance with agreements or delaying the word ”.
In this sense, he argued that “it is urgent to give a response, an institutional solution based on ILO Convention 169 and open political dialogue, but a dialogue without exclusions, not selective, by finger as was the meeting in this Wallmapu Committee that the Government inaugurated ”.
