The deputy of National Renovation (RN), Gonzalo Fuenzalida, unleashed criticism against him after stating in an interview that “for no reason” he was going to be vaccinated against covid-19, despite the fact that the inoculation in Chile is getting closer and closer.
Asked about it by Radio Universo, the official parliamentarian assured that he would not be vaccinated and that he preferred to wait.
“Any scientist or even doctor tells you that a vaccine with less than a year of study is not a 100% reliable vaccine and obviously the collateral effects must be seen, I think it is something that has yet to be written and seen … I am not so confident that this came and that the vaccine will be perfect, “he remarked.
“I am not an anti-vaccine, what happens is that the history of vaccines in the world and in history has been positive, but also when there is a short time for study, a short time for analysis, they have produced undesirable effects afterwards, people are vaccinated and it turns out that we see the effects later, ”he continued.
“The history of vaccines in the world, when vaccines have been implemented even with 4 years of study, they have produced collateral effects in people, in newborns … you have to be careful, it is not so easy,” the legislator added, firm in your position despite counter arguments.
The statement was criticized mainly on Twitter, a platform used by the Minister of Science and Technology, Andres Couve, to discredit the sayings of Fuenzalida.
“We need to talk more about the benefit of vaccines, about how they save lives, protect people’s health and eradicate disease. Statements like this do not contribute to the role that we must fulfill as authorities at such a critical moment ”, he questioned.
“Vaccination is a collective response to a problem that affects us all. Phase I and II trials that focus on safety, have already been published in prestigious magazines, and those that we know of phase III, along with proving efficacy, they reconfirm their safety ”, stressed the minister, who was designated as the man in charge of vaccination against the coronavirus in our country.
In this context, the aforementioned deputy had to go out to explain his sayings, using the same social network where he reiterated that he was not anti-vaccine.
“I am not an anti-vaccine and I hope this vaccine cures the pandemic, however I only ask for caution, and that we do not lose sight of the fact that it is a new vaccine that must be validated and that behind it there is a commercial war of the laboratories,” said Fuenzalida.
As stated by the Government, if everything continues as it has been up to now, the vaccination process in our country could begin in the coming weeks, prioritizing the inoculation of health workers and for people who have daily contact with many people because of their jobs.
