Deputy Álvaro Carter (UDI) will present a bill to allow Carabineros officials can use UZI submachine guns, and requested that the government’s initiative that sanction the commercialization and use of fireworks be put as urgent as possible.
On the latter, the parliamentarian said that “Fireworks are becoming entertainment for the underworld in Chile, since it is enough to see how they were used on Christmas Eve, where in various towns in Chile there was simply a real fireworks festival ”.
“In Viña del Mar, Valparaíso, Concón, among others, it was not very far from the reality that was experienced in Santiago on Christmas Eve.Therefore, this problem of fireworks has already become something that has exceeded the Metropolitan Region and has been exported ”, he added.

The parliamentarian pointed out that “It can be considered that the underworld is using this technique as a way to mark territory and almost as a demonstration of power in the populations. And all this is linked to the shootings, hit men, funerals of drug traffickers and a series of events that during this pandemic have been exponentially increased ”.
“For this reason, we are going to request that the bill presented by the Government be given the utmost urgency. and that it seeks to drastically sanction the commercialization and use of fireworks ”he indicated.
He also reported that “we will present a series of indications that allow the police to have resources from the Armed Forces such as drones and military intelligence, among others, to seek to put a real brake on this ritual that the fireworks theme means in the world of drug trafficking ”.

Carter also reported that “We will present another bill so that once and for all our police officers are given real weapons. It cannot be that when they have to enter different towns in Chile to confront criminals and drug traffickers, they are at a complete disadvantage in terms of weapons ”.
“Often times, Carabineros and PDI personnel carry simple pistols versus weapons of war used by drug traffickers. Therefore, we will seek that at least they can use UZI submachine guns, which is an urban combat weapon so that they can defend themselves against attacks “said the parliamentarian from Chile Vamos.
“I call on the Frente Amplio and the PC to once and for all take the side of the people and not block this type of initiative, because we know that they are usually on the side of criminals and violent people, but hopefully they will ever put themselves in the shoes of people who suffer from these types of situations, “he said.
