Protesters mobilized this Thursday in the center of Santiago, from Heroes to La Moneda, to request the resignation of President Sebastián Piñera, as well as the release of those detained during the social outbreak, which the organizers consider “political prisoners.”
The march, called through social networks, resulted in clashes with Carabineros and barricades.
The protests reportedly sparked the diversion of private and public transport, because the participants occupied the north road of the Alameda to advance, in addition to barricades in sectors such as Ricardo Cumming Avenue.
In the fence established by the Carabineros in Amunátegui with the Alameda there were clashes between protesters and police. At the site, Public Order Control personnel dispersed the participants towards the west with water and gas launchers.
Specifically, two groups of protesters were reported simultaneously: one in the Metro Universidad de Chile sector and the other in the Los Héroes sector.
In consequence to the afternoon protests, Santiago Metro was informing the partial closure -product of the disturbances- of various stations on Line 1: La Moneda, Republic, Los Héroes, U. de Chile, Santa Lucía and U. Católica; later, after 9:00 p.m., he reported the same for the Metro The jail by “demonstrations abroad”.
Already around 9:00 p.m., the situation in the center of Santiago was practically normalized.
Carabineros reported seven people arrested for “alterations to public order and assaults on Public Order Control personnel” in different sectors of the Alameda.

Due to the fact that mobilizations were developed during the morning and in the afternoon, in addition to others in different parts of the capital, the mayor of the Metropolitan Region, Felipe Guevara (RN) pointed out that he “is not aware” that the two have any relationship.
On this day, the Government expressed its rejection of the bill for opposition senators that seeks to pardon those detained from the social outbursts, for demonstrations and excesses, in addition to noting that in Chile “there are no political prisoners.”
