“Demonization of Approval” continues to concentrate reproaches in the evangelical world: Bishop Emilio Soto called for voting on “freedom of conscience” in the plebiscite

The evangelical world continues to be confronted by the use of religion in the television program for the next constitutional plebiscite on October 25. The greatest of these criticisms goes towards the use that the Rejection strip gives to it, where they assure that those who are in favor of the Approval are practically followers of the devil.

Specifically, organizations such as the Christian Conservative Party, the Christian Social Vanguard or the New Time Christian Party, have expressed an apocalyptic perspective on the possibility of a new Constitution, where the idea of ”Reject to reform” is repeated too many times. This coincides with the public campaign that political forces such as the UDI and half of RN have deployed, who are leading the campaign for Rejection.

On the sidewalk opposite, a group of 25 evangelicals –among laity, pastors and shepherds– published a letter some time ago in which they ask the faithful to “vote in conscience in the ongoing constituent process, continuing our historical tradition in favor of of religious pluralism and freedom of thought and religion, without allowing oneself to be frightened or paralyzed by terror campaigns that announce the end of Freedom of Religion and other similar calamities ”.

Criticisms point to the appearance on the strip of Kevin Valenzuela, representative of Evangelicals for Rejection, who assured that those who are with God should vote Rejection, because “Satan is behind” the social outbreak, which ended with the signing of the constituent process on November 15.

In this regard, the president of the Extended Table of Evangelical and Protestant Entities, Emiliano Soto, criticized on the radio Cooperative the use of religion in the fringe of Rejection.

“It seems to me that it is out of place for him to point to biblical verses in order to implement his thinking and demonize, in a certain way: putting the good ones on one side and the bad ones on the other,” he said.

“To say that those who are for Rejection are with God and those who are for Approval are with Satan, it seems out of place,” he emphasized.

“God is above any Constitution” and the churches “are before all states,” added Soto.

This criticism had already been expressed on Monday by the Council of Historic Protestant Churches of Chile, who described as “reprehensible” that it is intended to “identify and instrumentalize” all evangelicals with any of the options of the plebiscite.

“It seems reprehensible to us that it is intended to identify and instrumentalize all evangelicals with a certain option, whatever these may be,” they said in a statement.
