“If I were a macho rooster, I would never have made Ceci drive,” Daniel Fuenzalida responds to Cecilia Gutiérrez, the journalist who was fired on Tuesday by the creator, animator and executive producer of Me Late.
Gutiérrez had been in the show business program that TV + broadcasts for two years and two months and Fuenzalida affirms that he separated her due to the contents of Primer Plano del Pueblo, the space that the journalist has broadcast live on her Instagram for two months.
PPP is a conversation between Gutiérrez and Sergio Rojas, also a Me Late panelist and a friend of Fuenzalida. Among other various topics, there was information on the new partner and paternity of Iván Núñez and his problems with his ex-wife.
After her separation, the professional wrote on her Instagram: “El Primer Plano del Pueblo annoys more than we think and unfortunately, in our society, women pay much higher costs.”
Then he added in an interview with this site: “There are many things that have to do with machismo and that I will earn less than the rest of the panel because I am a woman.”
For his part, Daniel Fuenzalida responded to these sayings and various aspects of the detachment of the panelist in this interview:
What happened with the dismissal of Cecilia Gutiérrez? What were the reasons?
“We had been talking about Cecilia for a month. I was going through anguishing moments due to my mother’s health and when I returned I met with her, later with Sergio Rojas, with the two of them, about three or four meetings, where I said that we were crossing between Me Late and the Foreground of the People in editorial and commercial terms, and I made them see them both.
“They do a show that I don’t like, which is an old show, a bit of persecution, showing personal things, which is not what I want to do, which is Me Late. In Me Late we had made a very rich panel with Cecilia, with Sergio, with Luis Sandoval, who is a showbiz from humor.
“I like to talk about the programmatic grills, about the channels, but I don’t like to do lockdowns, I don’t like to go around denouncing, accusing people. It is not the show business that Me Late has done, we do an entertainment show.
“I made Cecilia see it when I came back from my mother’s, then Sergio alone, then the two of them together and finally, of course, there is a minute when you see that the two programs are not viable and you have to take some kind of measurements. They have every right to do so, because it is their networks, their schedule, from home, I have nothing to say. On the contrary, they have been spectacular.
“But I found that editorially I, like Daniel Fuenzalida, was having a bad time, and I told Cecilia. I said to her: ‘It’s like that, Cecilia, things happen to me with what you do because, ultimately, since the two of you are together…’ And I also told her this: ‘It’s a Me Late boy’. In other words, ‘the Me Late panelists said such a thing …’ They were not saying ‘the panelists from the First Plane of the Town’, and that caused me a noise, an anguish, because it is a show that I don’t want to do “
Were you the one who made the decision to fire her?
“Yes. This was being discussed, to some extent, because it had been going wrong with the program. It is my decision in terms of who I am at the head of the program. I started to undertake. Now on television one can make productions through Instagram, as Cecilia does, through a platform like mine, by associating with a channel. In that sense, you are the one who makes the decisions.
“Just as I decided that Cecilia would accompany us after she came to tell Felipe Camiroaga’s book, where I said to her ‘Cecilia, can you join us once a week and then stay with us?’ Just as I made the decision to integrate it to Me Late, decisions are also made when the cycles are fulfilled “
She says she is ‘hurt’. He assures that it was “unfair” and that “there were no compelling reasons.”
“I think that the reasons, weighty or not, were being discussed. Really my great reason is that, with what they said there (First Plan of the Town) I was having a bad time because of its form. They were two members of Me Late saying that, people who are very associated with me, the program, Me Late. I was having a hard time. It is a weighty decision.
“I have decided in my life that, when I am not having a good time, I have to make drastic decisions with myself or with the people around me, but I have to make decisions. In 2014, I was having a bad time in the First Plane and I had a current contract in Chilevisión. And in June I was having such a bad time in Primer Plano that I decide to talk to Carlos Valencia (executive producer) and tell him ‘I want to leave the program because I’m not having a good time’.
“This is also the same. They, having the First Plane of the People, with what they were talking about others and this noise that was generating in a negative way – I believe, it is a personal opinion -, they were having a bad time. And when one has a hard time it is a weighty decision “
Gutiérrez spoke of “machismo” because she was fired and not Sergio Rojas. She also said that there is machismo in the program, because she has been practically the only woman in the space.
“The decision to fire her, and not Sergio, is because she is the owner of her program, the journalistic editor, the host. She is undertaking this and is not a panelist, she is the one who creates the entire program and Sergio is a panelist for her. So Sergio can be a panelist there and here. It is not a question of machismo. If Sergio had been the owner of the program, the editor, what Cecilia does, it would have been Sergio, since Cecilia could have been a panelist there and here.
“And the show has had several women. Before the pandemic and before the social outbreak, we had several people who shared with us on the panel. As Cecilia was the Nati Mandiola, Cony Solar. I had a panel, every Thursday, that was of pure women: Pamela Jiles, Marisela Santibáñez and Marcela Sabat, who would do a Me Late with them, of only women. We had done very well. With the social outbreak and pandemic, this program could not continue, but we have always invited women.
“And that hurts a little bit, because Cecilia knows very well that I was absent for two weeks because of my mother and I divided the driving into a man and a woman. I expressly, in the WhatsApp of Me Late, I said ‘one week encourages Luis Sandoval and one week Cecilia Gutiérrez’. If I were a macho rooster, I would never have made Ceci drive.
“I believed in his professional capacity and I believe in his conditions. So, of machismo, nothing. I always distributed the panel and I was very even in that, very transparent, very balanced in the passes. And she was our great companion. But the panel has had the participation of more women ”.
