“Congratulations and calls for attention” made this Sunday the Minister of Health, Enrique Paris. From La Moneda, the health authorities delivered a new balance on the evolution of Covid-19 at the national level and reported – for the second consecutive day – more than two thousand infections a day.
Before delivering the new figures, the Secretary of State expressed his concern for four regions in the south of the country. In fact he claimed that an increase in cases has been seen in the last seven days in Los Ríos, Aysén, La Araucanía and Maule. In the case of Magellan, which had a rise in recent weeks, Paris said that this situation has “maintained”.
Biobío, Coquimbo, Antofagasta, Metropolitana, Arica and Parinacota, Valparaíso and Los Lagos, on the other hand, “are regions that have managed to reduce their confirmed cases weekly”, he stressed.
The Minister of Health also appreciated that “The positivity rate for PCR tests has dropped from 17% to 6% in the last 90 days. There are neighboring countries with a positivity rate of 46% currently “. In the capital, meanwhile, this index remains around 4%.
In relation to the balance, the number of new infections was 2,082 this day. Of these, 1,413 are symptomatic, 592 have no symptoms, and 77 have not yet been reported.
“Of course there is concern. In two days we have had over two thousand cases and we are very concerned about this figure that reveals an endemic, in our opinion, high. Obviously, we will continue to make every effort to reduce this number of cases “, said the minister and added that “We are not going to deny reality.”

With this new balance, the accumulated total of infections in the country amounted to 434,748. Of these, 406,326 are recovered cases and 16,473 are currently active.
On the other hand, the authorities reported 54 new deaths from Covid-19 -according to figures from the Department of Statistics and Information of the Minsal (DEIS) -, adding 11,949 deaths in total since the beginning of the pandemic.
Regarding the national health network, as of this Sunday there are 906 patients hospitalized in intensive care units. 676 are connected to mechanical ventilation.
Paris also highlighted the PCR testing figures. “Yesterday a record was broken and today we again did 36,298 PCR tests”, said.
