Cult Recipes: Spud’s Breakfast in Trainspotting

[ad_1]

“It can happen to anyone,” Gail’s father says when a shy Spud appears through the door of the dining room where the family eats their hearty breakfast.

Gail is furious. After a night of dancing and alcohol, Spud collapsed unconscious on his bed, unable to control his sphincter. Disgusted, horrified and embarrassed, he grabs the dirty sheets and goes to meet his girlfriend’s family, with a mission to clean up their mess as soon as possible.

Gail’s parents graciously offer her a place at the table for a traditional “Sunday breakfast,” as the British call the mighty plate of bacon, sausage, fried egg, and beans. A whole stomach pump for those who lost control of their body in someone else’s home.

The outcome of that scene does not need to be described, as it is known to viewers of Trainpotting, and those who have not seen … run to see it, as Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) and Spud (Ewen Bremmer) do to the beat of “Lust for life” by Iggy Pop.

  • Bacon
  • Egg
  • Beans
  • Shall
  • Oil
  • Sausage
  • Bread to taste
  • Tea or coffee
  • Oranges

1. The bean stew should be prepared the day before.

2. After letting the beans soak about 8 hours before, put them to cook in hot water for 25 to 30 minutes. If you like, add a capsule of broth – a longaniza flavor is the best one.

3. While cooking, sauté chopped onion, garlic and red chili powder. Add the sauce to the bean cooking and continue cooking the stew for about 10 more minutes.

4. In a pan with oil, cook the sausages and bacon, remove and then fry the eggs.

5. Season with salt to taste.

6. Squeeze oranges and pour the juice into a glass.

7. Serve a cup of tea or coffee according to the diner’s preference.

8. In a large plate, serve the fried eggs, sausages, strips of bacon and a large spoon of beans.

9. Accompany with slices of bread.

10. Enjoy.
