Javier Favier Ginarte, one of the medical students infected with coronavirus during his work exercise, was discharged on the same day of his birthday, last Saturday, after the pandemic had expired.
“The best gift is that I was discharged on my birthday. I am very happy, ”said the young man, resident in the Abel Santamaría neighborhood, Isla de la Juventud special municipality, in an interview with the Victoria newspaper.
According to media reports, Juan Miguel Reyes Torres, Delmis Linares Ramírez, Leonardo Romero González, Víctor Luis Coffigny and Ricardo Gil also received discharge from the General Teaching Hospital “Héroes del Baire” in Nueva Gerona. The latter, an 81-year-old man, who was in serious condition for 10 days.
Dr. Yosvany Ortiz Jiménez, specialist in charge of the group that cared for patients, assured that now citizens must remain in a “surveillance period” in their respective homes for 14 days.
“They are not yet fully discharged, during admission to the home they must be in total isolation, without having contact with other family members and must be visited daily by the family doctor, who is in charge of the continuity of the treatment with the antiretroviral Kaletra ”, he explained.
“After this period, the PCR is repeated and if the result is negative, then they are given an epidemiological discharge, which is confirmation that the patient is cured.”
Coronavirus in Cuba
The Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) confirmed on Monday the detection of 20 new cases and 2 deaths due to complications derived from the coronavirus. This update brings the number of infected to 1,389 and the number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 56.
Meanwhile, 3,546 patients admitted to hospitals on suspicion; 525, have already been discharged and others, 5,556 are monitored from their homes by elements of Primary Health Care.
