He had been in the world of private business for 22 years, as a manager at D&S (the group that owns the Líder supermarket chain under the Wallmart umbrella) when a fortuitous event pushed Cristóbal Lira Ibáñez (1957) to enter the public service.

Turns out that after the devastating earthquake of 2010Lira, according to himself on his LinkedIn account, volunteered to help rebuild the country. With his experience in product distribution work, the then President Sebastián Piñera appointed him as Executive Secretary of the Emergency and Reconstruction Committee, where he was in charge of distributing boxes of merchandise and building emergency housing.

From there he did not stop. In 201, Lira -commercial engineer from the Adolfo Ibáñez University and reservist for the Air Force-, assumed as the first Undersecretary of Crime Prevention, a position he held until the end of Piñera’s first government, and in 2016 he applied to be councilor for Lo Barnechea as independent pro UDI.

That was when November 2019 arrived, and Mayor Felipe Guevara (RN) resigned from his position to assume as Mayor of the Metropolitan Region. Following the norm, the municipal council had the mission of choosing the successor, and it was Lira the chosen one for the position.
