A series of confessions made by the Chilean actor Cristián de la Fuente in conversation with Martín Cárcamo, revealing aspects of his life that were unknown to many of his followers; between them, the difficult relationship he had with his father.
In this sense, De la Fuente argued that during his life he had to undergo various psychological therapies due to the need he had, from a very young age, to show others that he was good at what he did.
“(That comes from) being the son of my father’s lover and having to prove that I am worth enough to be part of the other family”, start.
The story continued with a quite emotional testimony: “I was born in a house, I had a mother, and I had a father who lived in another house with an aunt and my brothers. And my dad would go to my house every day to see me from six to ten at night, on Fridays I would go to lunch at my aunt’s house with my brothers and on Sundays my dad would go to eat at my house with me and my mom . So that’s how they raised me, that was my reality ”.
“Over time I grew and I realized that this issue was not normal, that the houses were different, and when you realize you have to accept it and begin to understand it, live with it and have to explain it, “he continued.
“It comes from there, to tell my dad: I am as good or better than the rest of your children, so I also deserve to be caught, I also deserve the last name, I also deserve to be part of the family ”, added the 46-year-old actor.
After that, he spoke at length about the relationship he had as a teenager with his father, revealing that his father was an alcoholic.
“I had many conversations with him, besides I always knew that my father was going to die young. Many people tell me ‘you who did not study theater’. I didn’t study theater because I didn’t have time. I always thought my dad was going to die when he was 21 years old. I was wrong, he died when he was 22. I always knew it, since I was 15 years old I knew that my father was going to die, “he said.
“My dad was an alcoholic, and he also led a life on the edge. Many times I did not have a driving license, I learned to drive very young, but my father would go from my house to his house driving cured and I would go in my mother’s car at age 15 to know that he arrived safely, without he knew I was following him, ”he added.
In this sense, the actor indicated that during his youth he did not have time to study theater, like many of his colleagues on Channel 13.
“I always knew he was going to die, he says, that’s why I didn’t have time to study, I knew I had to get to work fast. That’s why I joined Channel 13 at 18, because I had to work fast, because when my dad died I had to support my mom. So I always lived with that reality ”, he commented.
Despite all this, De la Fuente concluded by saying that I have good feelings towards his father: “I did not get the scenario I wanted, the reality of my father, who was an excellent father, did not touch me, I would have loved that he hadn’t been an alcoholic, that he was alive today and that I could hug him. I would have loved if we had all been one family in my family, but it wasn’t like that and that’s how I had to play and move on ”.
It should be noted that the actor returned to live in Chile with his wife, Angélica Castro, after living for two decades in the United States.
