Cristián Álvarez is a true emblem for the Catholic University. Unmissable in all the historical payroll of the box in the foothills, his courage in defending the shirt was the personal brand etched on the fans.
The other Cruzados captain maintains a strong bond with the club of his loves, now from another sidewalk. “I am working at the Catholic University, I am a technical secretary and I am also studying and seeing my businessesÁlvarez tells from his home.
El Huaso, as it is known, he recalled with Deportivo Escolar the moments that marked his sporting career, and that started at school, between Curicó and the capital.
“I did the basic one at Colegio 21 and first and second half at the Lyceum. While 3 and 4 half was at the Amanda Labarca Lyceum,” Álvarez told Deportivo Escolar.
At the same time, Huaso recalls that “I wasn’t doing too bad but I wasn’t doing too well either. I traveled 2 to 3 times a week to Santiago to train, after so many trips I had to leave my studies aside, but I graduated normally and with a regular average. ”
But in between he found a passion for sports, and that it wasn’t just soccer. “I always liked soccer, although I also did other sports; I played basketball, I did gymnastics, tennis, but little by little. It is always good for children to have skills in other sports, because coordination works for everything, “says Álvarez.
“When you love a sport so much you don’t feel it as a sacrifice, go to train every day, with rain, heat and being tired. You have to love a lot and love what you do too much”
Although, anyway, he assumes that the inclination for soccer comes from his family. “My dad was a footballer, he played in Colo Colo and in many teams. So out there There is a family tradition that made me a footballer since I was a child“the former soccer player analyzed Deportivo Escolar.
For this reason, he considers that the correct family support is fundamental and valuable for the development of school athletes. “Without the support of the family from the time the child is born, from the milk the mother gives him, to accompanying him in training and all that. In other words, for me all this is essential, that if a child is going to be an athlete, the whole family has to take charge of food and breaks, “says Álvarez.
And it is that the affection of his family is the same affection that he gave to the team that saw him as a reference. and that love for sports is what he expects from any schoolboy. “They have to find the sport they like, then they have to love that sport, because only that leads you to be very disciplined. When you love a sport so much you don’t feel it as a sacrifice, go to train every day, with rain, heat and being tired. You have to love a lot and love what you do too much ”.
