The Ministry of Education and Fonasa announced the entry into force of the Covid-19 School Insurance. This is a benefit that guarantees more than 3,270,000 toddlers and schoolchildren the free coverage of all medical benefits associated with coronavirus in the Public Health Network.
The Minister of Education, Raúl Figueroa, and the director of Fonasa, Marcelo Mosso, announced the scope of the insurance.
Figueroa pointed out that “listening to what parents have asked us, today we present this Covid-19 School Insurance that allows, through Fonasa, to ensure the free and total provision of all students of kindergarten and school education who must be treated for any situation linked to the coronavirus ”.
“Regardless of the section of Fonasa they are in, everyone will have free health coverage. This benefit reaches more than 3 million children and young people in our country ”, he explained.
For his part, Marcelo Mosso indicated that the extension of the free coverage to schoolchildren of all sections will be in force during the entire period of the health alert.
“In addition to the sanitary measures established for voluntary return, this insurance is generated that seeks to protect the schoolchild who may require attention as a result of covid-19 ” added the director of Fonasa.
Along with the details of the Covid School Insurance, Minister Figueroa indicated that one week before the official departure of the school year, 3,000 educational establishments throughout Chile have started face-to-face activities.
“This week in which Unicef called on all the countries of the world to prioritize the opening of schools, and very particularly in Latin America, considering that 3 out of 5 children who did not have classes last year are in our region, Chile It has also started this process, “he said.
The Secretary of State complemented that “to this date, 3,000 educational establishments began their face-to-face activities in the school environment and 2,000, in the field of early childhood education. In the coming weeks, as establishments adapt to health requirements, and to the extent that conditions allow it in other territories, more establishments will be incorporated ”.
About the vaccination process, the head of the Mineduc indicated that 77% of the target group of education workers have already received a first dose of vaccine. The figure includes teachers, educational assistants, early childhood educators and food handlers.
“It is important that together we continue to take the appropriate measures to make schools a safe space and allow students, teachers and education assistants to meet again so that 2021 is a year other than 2020”, added.
