Covid-19: Piñera says they hope to have the vaccine and begin to inoculate the population at risk “during the next days or weeks”

This Friday at the Palacio de La Moneda the XV Summit of the Pacific Alliance, headed by the President Sebastián Piñera, and that had the participation – in person – of his pair of Colombia, Iván Duque and, virtual, of Heads of State of Peru and Mexico, Francisco Sagasti and Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

After a series of activities and meetings during the morning, Piñera and Duque made a joint press statement, where the handover of the pro tempore presidency of the agency from Chile to Colombia.

“Today we have reached important agreements on a route or roadmap for a regional digital market agreement; a roadmap to achieve full equality of opportunities and rights between men and women; a roadmap to free ourselves from single-use plastics, which causes so much damage; and in addition to that we have managed to design strategies to face the challenges of the moment, ”Piñera said.

The Chilean President also addressed efforts to begin promptly vaccinating the population amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“Just as the vaccine we hope will be a strong and effective solution to the coronavirus pandemic, only the recovery and reactivation of our economies and the recovery of our ability to create jobs, invest and reactivate the economy, will allow us definitive solutions to the social issues that anguish and urge so many families in the Pacific Alliance and also in our country, ”he said, adding that “We have made great strides to ensure a safe and effective vaccine, which we hope to be able to have available and start vaccinating, starting with populations at risk, over the next few days or weeks. And that will allow us to better control the coronavirus pandemic and It will also allow us to recover the freedoms and capacities of all people to fulfill and carry out their dreams and projects ”.

Regarding the summit, the head of state stressed that during this day “we reached important agreements for the incorporation of Singapore and for the incorporation of Ecuador, as associate members of the Pacific Alliance. And we hope that New Zealand, Australia and Canada will join us soon ”.

The president of Colombia complemented that the incorporation of both countries will be one of the first objectives during his pro tempore presidency. “We hope that, with the work carried out during this last year, 2021 will allow us to bring Ecuador as a full member and we hope that Singapore will arrive as an associate member,” he said.
