The Ministry of Health reported during this Sunday the highest level of active cases of covid-19 since last October 23.
Also, the balance of this day reported 2,191 new cases, 1,411 symptomatic and 740 without symptoms, slightly below the numbers reported in recent days (2,404 on Friday and 2,217 on Saturday), and with a new test record: 50,285 PCR performed in the last 24 hours, a figure that coincides with the lifting of the Minsal restriction, which now allows requesting a PCR without a medical order.
Enrique Paris, head of the Minsal, assured that “only two regions decreased their new cases in the last seven days and one region in the last 14 days. Today we report 50,285 tests that reinforce the testing, traceability and isolation strategy and keep us as a leader in Latin America and in a relevant position worldwide ”.
The health authority also pointed out that “the positivity for the last 24 hours nationwide is 4.36%.” Likewise, Paris said that the Magallanes region continues to show a significant decrease in the incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants, but it continues to be the highest in the country. The regions with the highest increase in new confirmed cases in the last seven days are Coquimbo, Tarapacá, Antofagasta and Maule.
Meanwhile, in today’s balance the Metropolitan region leads with 525 new infections in the last day, followed by Biobío (405), La Araucanía (215) and Los Lagos (214).
The total number of people who have been diagnosed with covid-19 in the country reaches 585,545. Of this total, 13,105 patients are in the active stage. The recovered cases are 555,956.
Regarding deaths, according to the information provided by the Department of Health Statistics and Information (DEIS), in the last 24 hours there were 53 deceased for causes associated with covid-19. The total number of deceased amounts to 16,154 in the country.
To date, 663 people are hospitalized in Intensive Care Units, of which 490 are on mechanical ventilation support and 62 are in critical health. Regarding the Integrated Health Network, there are a total of 321 ventilators available.
In this context, Paris assured that they continue to “work to reduce infections, we will continue to strengthen our BAC (Active Case Search) strategy and we trust that citizens will take care of themselves and maintain self-care measures. We have to avoid what happens and we see with so much pain in Europe and the United States. I ask, in particular, young people to take care of their health, that of their families, friends and loved ones ”.
