The Ministry of Health (Minsal) reported this Sunday that in the last 24 hours 4,498 new cases of coronavirus were registered, exceeding the 4,000 barrier for the fourth day in a row, and 79 deceased.

Of these confirmed infections, 2,822 cases show symptoms, 1,438 cases are asymptomatic and 238 cases have not yet been reported.

With these new registered cases, the figure of 699,110 total infected since the start of the pandemic was reached, 26,682 of which are considered assets.

The Metropolitan region maintains the highest number of infected in the active stage, with 5,178; they follow him The lakes (4,025) and Biobio (3,128).

Meanwhile, the total number of deaths associated with Covid-19 increased to 17,933 during the pandemic in Chile.

Given these numbers, the infectologist Carlos Pérez classified the situation as “very worrying” because “the decrease that we would like has not been observed”, which is also “related to a high number of people who are currently in a critical patient unit – which exceeds 1,200 – and is on mechanical ventilation”.

“We hope that this figure will decrease in the coming days, because if not, the health system and especially the hospitals and the critical patients unit, they will continue with a high demand“, he alerted.

Currently there 1,263 patients hospitalized in ICU -similar figure from the previous report-, 1,070 of which are connected to invasive mechanical ventilation and 85 remain in critical condition.

On the last day they were informed 65,500 PCR tests, with a positivity of 6.87%, reaching a total of 7,651,856 tests since the beginning of the pandemic.

At the level of healthcare networks, 192 critical beds are available, while there are 10,937 total places in 153 sanitary residences authorized nationwide.

VACATION PERMIT EVALUATION

The Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, said in the report on Saturday that he evaluates regulating the questioned vacation leave in some regions due to the sustained increase in cases.

From the Medical College in Valparaíso, its president Ignacio de la Torre, valued the openness of the health owner to this possibility.

We believe that re-evaluating this and other measures such as: the opening and closing of non-essential commerce or the operation of some companies that are not considered essential as measures to avoid crowds, modify the entry and exit schedules of face-to-face work, in such a way that avoid saturation of the means of public transport, it can be a set of measures to study. We are available for collaborative work so that the numbers decrease, “he commented.
