The measure was released by the minister spokesperson, Karla Rubilar, through a series of messages that he wrote on his Twitter account in response to a thread from the journalist, researcher and writer Alejandra Matus.
Matus indicated during the Thursday afternoon that “according to data provided by the Civil Registry, at a request by Transparency from the lawyer Jorge Álvarez, between March 3 and April 29, 2020, 4,201 people died in Chile due to respiratory disease. date, Minsal recorded 209 deaths from Covid-19 “.
After this, the spokeswoman for La Moneda replied that “The public body that provides official information on deaths and causes of death is the Department of Statistics and Health Information (DEIS) of the Ministry of Health and not the Civil Registry”, adding that the first group “carries out a rigorous investigation to establish the causes of death of the deceased, in order to provide rigorous and reliable information.”
“According to the same DEIS, in March and April 2019 1,798 people died from respiratory causes,” added Rubilar.
“In those same months of 2020, during Covid-19, 1,949 people died. This means an increase of 8%,” the minister concluded, before announcing the publication to be made from this Friday.
